My 97-square-foot apartment in Paris makes New York feel huge

Say “oui!” to this small apartment.

A TikTok user, whose real name is unknown – but a young woman who appears to be an American husband in Paris – posted on the app to show him the modest French accommodations during her time abroad.

Just how humble? The size of her Parisian spread equals 96.8 square feet, according to Insider, which requires her to store her bag in the bathroom.

“[It’s] Small but I love it,” she wrote of the video, which she posted in April, which has since racked up 3.1 million views. The clip is a tour of the unit, whose tiny size is pretty small by New York City standards. However, its biggest feature Her is a distant, seasonal view of the Eiffel Tower through an oversized window.

But the unit isn’t that big – of course, TikTok users got involved to offer their thoughts.

One wrote, “Harry Potter had more space under the stairs,” while another said, “This apartment should be $20 a month.”

The unit opens onto a small sink that appears to double as a kitchen and bathroom sink.

The uploader explained the cost, about 600 to 700 euros per month, about $611 to $713 in today’s figures, paid by the host family that hires them.

Maybe it’s because it comes free for her because she likes it, but she takes great care of it – not only keeping it tidy but also decorating it with postcards from the museums she’s visited.

Her tiny house opens onto a small sink in the foyer where she keeps toiletries. A small pivot to her left takes her into the main living room, which has a small kitchen next to a small bed. The kitchen is a small nook with a hot plate and mini fridge – plus a couple of drawers and cupboards for some storage.

Between the kitchen and the bed is a narrow closet that says “It’s a mess,” but the video shows her clothes organized across a shelf and some shelves. On the other side of the bed, thanks to the good organization, is an element that you cannot imagine inside.

“This is my small office area with a great view of the park,” she says of a glass-topped desk that looks out into a lush view and, yes, the Eiffel Tower when cold weather clears trees from their green space.

But the small turn to the right gives real meaning to the term water tank.

“Behind door #1, we have a toilet,” she says as she opens a frosted glass door that snugly fits that toilet just behind it. A similar pair of faux glass doors next to it hide a very small shower stall, big enough to fit her purple suitcase.

“Very nice!” Says.

And someone else in Paris agreed, seeming to understand the severe crisis.

“Girl I live in Paris and this space is well thought out and decorated!!!” Another commentator wrote. “The best probs [96.8 square feet] I have seen.”
