Samantha Bee ‘Full Frontal’ Canceled In Latest Late Night Downgrade

Samantha Bee “Full Frontal” got a kick in the ass from Warner Bros. Discovery.

The show, which has become a feature program for big cable network TBS, “will not return to the network in the fall,” according to a statement from Bee representatives.

“As we continue to shape our new software strategy, we’ve made some tough business-based decisions,” TBS said in a statement. “We are proud to be the home of “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” and we thank Sam and the rest of the Emmy Award-nominated team members for their pioneering work. We celebrate this exceptionally talented cast and crew and look forward to exploring new opportunities to work with them in the future.”

Over the course of seven seasons, Bee’s “Full Frontal” has brought an aggressive, saucy sound to the late-night television scene, and one of the few shows led by a female viewpoint. Bee captured attention with outrageous humor and monologues that prompted the usually bland cable network to embrace massive amounts of profanity and tackle often polarizing political issues. In 2018, the show became part of the news cycle when Bee used a charged nickname referring to part of the female autopsy to insult President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka. Advertisers backed away from commercial support for some time.

“We make an offer to please ourselves,” B said. diverse During an interview in 2016. “This gives us a chance to say the things we want in the exact way we want to say it.” In the process, her viewers laugh, but they can also shake off their frustration with modern politics and culture. When Bee watches TV, she says, “I like a firm hand to take me somewhere. I guess that’s what we do with the show—give a firm hand. You might not like where it takes you, and that’s fine too.” She hopes “viewers will step away from comedy first, then vent.”

The end of her show will come as television continues to curtail his late-night manners. WarnerMedia decided to end its long-running late night show “Conan” on TBS with Conan O’Brien in June of last year. NBC and Late Night presenter Lily Singh, the digital entertainment influencer who launched a new show on the network in the early hours of the morning, decided to separate last year. Comedy Central, which once boasted three different late-night shows, now has only one, “The Daily Show,” that airs regularly during weeknights. Showtime’s “Desus & Mero,” a weekly teaser show, will not be returning to Showtime thanks to a fallout between its hosts. CBS is considering cheaper alternatives to replace James Corden when he leaves “The Late Late Show” in early 2023.

The end of “Full Frontal” comes with the rise of Warner Bros. Discovery is cutting content spending for large cable networks such as TBS and TNT. The outlets are sure to keep showing movies and adding more sports nights, thanks to a recent rights deal struck between Warner Bros. Discovery and the NHL. But TBS has scaled back the scripts, with shows like “Chad” and “The Last OG” cancelled in recent weeks. Brett Weitz, general manager of TBS, TNT and TruTV, left the company in May after the cable networks merged under the auspices of Warner Bros. CEO Kathleen Finch. Discovery. Weitz was a staunch supporter of the “full front”.

“Full Frontal” heralded a new offering of weekly late-night humor shows aimed at smaller niches rather than a broader audience. Once the Bee program gained traction, BET tried a demo similar to Robin Thede – produced by the same company behind Bee. Comedy Central was trying a weekly program led by Charlemagne Tha Jude.

Bee often surprised viewers by traveling to faraway places, interviewing interesting analysts, and giving time to new voices such as Amy Hoggart, Mike Rubens and Ashely Nicole Black. One of her funniest clips focused on her trying to buy an NRA Eddie the Eagle mascot costume—and finding it more difficult than buying firearms. Full Frontal was recently nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Miniseries or Reality Shorts category.
